DBT can help you learn and practice skills in a supportive environment to build a brighter future.
At its best, DBT offers a path to emotional stability. With the right tools and guidance, it is possible that DBT can help you feel better. When you feel better you naturally move towards living the life.
Lowering the Barrier - Affordable DBT
One of the barriers to doing DBT here in the New York area has been that it can be expensive! DBT in its full form requires both individual and group treatment, and treatment can be costly. Here in our practice, we offer moderate-fee individual sessions ($150) and DBT skills group ($60). Both require a weekly commitment. They work together to help you feel better and gain skills to be more effective in your life. We also offer a discount for people who do both individual and group treatment in our practice ($175 per week) while you are in both modalities, to make accessing the full power of DBT easier. Or, you are welcome to try either individual therapy informed by DBT, or skills group. Being in skills group with Asha Kadir, our DBT specialist, does require that you are in individual therapy, either with Asha or with your own therapist.
Individual DBT Therapy
At our practice, we offer individual therapy sessions tailored to your specific needs and goals. In DBT, individual therapy is a collaborative and empowering process that focuses on teaching skills to navigate life’s challenges. Therapist Asha Kadir will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that incorporates four key areas of focus: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
With these tools you can learn to cope with difficult emotions, improve your relationships with others, and enhance your overall quality of life. DBT therapy can be particularly effective for individuals with anxiety, depression, and trauma. It provides concrete skills and strategies to manage these complex and often overwhelming experiences.
In individual DBT therapy, you may work on a variety of techniques to help you achieve your goals. For example, you might practice mindfulness exercises to help you stay present and grounded in the moment when things are difficult. You might also work on the behavior chain analysis process. This can help you better understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. From there you can work to change these patterns in a more positive way.
Overall, individual DBT therapy is a safe and supportive space for you to explore your emotions and work towards your goals. By learning new skills and building your emotional resilience, you can transform your life and thrive. We’re here to support you every step of the way!
DBT Skills Group
In addition to individual therapy sessions, our practice also offers DBT skills group. This is a structured and supportive environment where you can learn and practice new skills alongside others who are working towards similar goals. Unlike individual therapy, DBT skills group is a more interactive and social experience. You can learn from others, share your experiences, and receive feedback from your peers.
In a DBT skills group, you will learn and practice a variety of skills that are designed to help you manage difficult emotions, cope with stress, and build better relationships with others. These skills fall into four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
By incorporating these skills into your everyday life, you can improve your mental health, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and increase your overall quality of life. For example, practicing mindfulness can help you stay present and grounded in the moment, even when things are difficult. Distress tolerance skills can help you manage intense emotions in healthy ways, such as deep breathing or physical exercise. Emotion regulation skills can help you identify and change negative thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress. Interpersonal effectiveness skills can help you communicate more effectively with others and build stronger relationships.

Examples of specific skills that are taught in a DBT skills group include radical acceptance, which involves accepting things as they are, rather than struggling against them. This skill can be particularly helpful when dealing with difficult situations that you can’t change. Other skills might include interpersonal effectiveness strategies, such as how to communicate effectively, set boundaries, and negotiate conflicts in relationships.
Overall, DBT skills group is a valuable and empowering experience. It can help you develop the skills you need to manage difficult emotions, build better relationships, and achieve your goals. We invite you to join our supportive community and discover the power of DBT skills group for yourself.
