A Therapist Gives Thanks

With the holiday season upon us, I am looking back at some of what has happened in my practice in 2017 and feeling grateful:

Grateful to my clients, who amaze me every day with their presence and humanness, their willingness to do the work, and their ability to feel themselves and take action in the world.

Grateful to my teachers, who inspire me to become the best therapist I can be, and to keep figuring out how my grounding in gestalt therapy can live more fully in my work as a therapist and in my own life. Thank you to Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy, where I trained, for the opportunity to re-engage this past year in the mentee program, to Northstar Consulting for exciting new developments in therapy and consulting for adopted persons, and to my mentors and consultants. And thank you to Ruella Frank for her 2-year Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy advanced training, which I finished this year and which has deepened my work.

Grateful to my colleagues, in the gestalt community, the adoption community, and the trauma and EMDR communities for conversation, challenge, learning, and connection. And especially my reading group, we did it! We just completed an 18-month study of one of our most challenging foundational texts of gestalt therapy and celebrated that achievement last weekend.

2017 saw my practice move to a lovely new full-time office on 5th Avenue at 31st. Street in Manhattan, and I was able to serve more clients including more adoptees and members of the adoption triad with this expansion in hours and availability.  I also spoke at the New Jersey Let’s Talk Adoption conference about loss and grief and adoptees, and as part of that project conducted a survey of adopted persons on their experiences around grief, which can be found on my blog in a four part series beginning here.

I look forward to supporting you in your growth and development in 2018 as I am able. If you are interested in working with me, consulting, or getting assistance with a referral for therapy in any of my areas of specialty, please call me at 347-620-2181 or email jennifer@jennifergriesbach.com.

All the best to you!

Jennifer
